We are delighted to announce that EIDA along with our partners AMTS have been selected as a finalist in the “Innovation in Construction” category for this year’s Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE). Our entry which is titled “Paperless digitised construction and commissioning” focuses on our journey, innovation and collaboration (with AMTS and our end clients) over 4 large projects that led to the construction of a €14bn semiconductor facility that has been the first ever in the world to be delivered completely paperless. The project had 12.4 million files which was over 6 terabytes in size digitally saving 30 million sheets of paper or 3000 trees.
There has been a record number of entries this year that follow and lengthy and rigorous review process by an expert panel of judges from construction disciplines including construction management, engineering, architecture, and cost management.
The following is an overview summary of our entry:
In today’s evolving environment, construction projects are becoming ever more complex as customers and manufacturers alike relentlessly drive the need for bespoke custom facilities to meet their needs. This increase in construction complexity correlates directly with an increase in the paperwork required to remain compliant and to maintain traceability, which in turn can result in significant cost, and have the potential for increasing time to market. To address this challenge, Commissioning and Qualification market leaders, EIDA and AMTS, identified the need to bring innovation to project delivery by removing the paper component from large projects, while maintaining compliance and traceability. Our focus was on projects in the semiconductor and life science arena, and our solution was to develop a complex construction software database for managing the flow of documentation on these projects. This whole process reduced project handover time and cost by ~ 20% while maintaining documentation compliance.
Founded in 1993, the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards are the original and most recognised accolades in excellence in Ireland’s construction industry. The awards are open to a wide range of professionals including building contractors, construction management firms, civil engineering contractors, specialist M&E and other contractors, architectural and engineering consultants, construction educators, and product manufacturers/suppliers. They celebrate outstanding achievements across all construction disciplines and project categories.
The winners in each category will be announced at the ICE Awards Gala on Thursday 1 May so fingers crossed we can bring home the award on the night.
